Submissions
All authors are asked to send in a sample – the first 3 chapters and a one page synopsis of your book, by email only, to
submissions@fledglingpress.co.uk. PLEASE NOTE we do not accept paper submissions or previously self-published work and these will be disposed of unread. No returns.
We do not publish poetry, novellas, fantasy, sci-fi or middle grade and we no longer publish children's picture books or illustrated books for any age group. Genres we are interested in are crime fiction, YA, contemporary fiction, historic fiction and life stories with a twist.

We aim to read initial submissions within 6 weeks of receiving them. If we like what we see, we will then ask to read your full manuscript. After reading your manuscript we will decide whether we will consider the manuscript for publication.

Should we decide not to take your manuscript any further we will always try to provide constructive feedback although we can't always give you detailed reasons for our decisions. All decisions are final and no further correspondence will be entered into after this stage.

If we do wish to proceed with your work we will discuss fully our plans and timescales fully with you and at that point offer you a contract to publish.

Please be aware that agreeing to read your initial submission or the full manuscript does not constitute an offer to publish.

You can view a selection of the books we publish by visiting our online bookshop. If you wish to purchase one of our titles we are happy to offer you a new visitor discount using code WRITER150 at checkout.
Editorial Services

We have recently received a number of requests regarding Editorial Services. If we contract to publish then as part of the process we will go through your manuscript making editorial suggestions and put the finished copy through a proofreading process. There is no cost to the author for these services when contracted to publish.
At the moment Fledgling Press does not provide Copy-Edit or Proofreading as a stand alone paid for service, however, if you are seeking these services we can recommend and provide contact details. Please drop us a note using our contact form and we will pass on details to you.

How do I get my book published? At Fledgling Press we will give you help and support throughout the publishing process, if selected, from your initial manuscript submission, to proof reading, editing, designing and printing. We work with a talented team to make sure your book is well-designed, converted to digital formats and is promoted. To start this process, send the first three chapters of your manuscript and a synopsis to submissions@fledglingpress.co.uk. We aim to read and respond to all initial submissions within 6 weeks of receiving them. Please note that due to the high volume of submissions received, sometimes this may take longer.

What if you decide to place my manuscript on your long list?At this point we will sit down and discuss the project in more detail, talking about timescales, editing, and marketing. It is at this point that we will formally offer you a contract and help guide you through the publishing process.

Do you help with editing and proof reading?Yes, as part of the process we will go through your manuscript in fine detail to make sure it is grammatically correct, makes sense and is a sellable piece of literature. If need be, we will make editorial suggestions to improve the structure and flow of the story. That said, we do expect manuscripts to have been thoroughly proofread beforehand. If a manuscript has basic spelling and grammar errors we will generally reject it.

What about a book cover? We work with freelance illustrators and have our own graphic designer on hand to assist with the production of a cover. If you have something particular in mind we will do our best to work with you and our designer to produce a cover that everyone is happy with.
